If you’ve recently upgraded your phone and found yourself locked out, don't worry—it happens to the best of us! I have already reset your MFA settings on the back end.
Now, follow these three specific steps to get your new device linked and your account secured.
1. Clean Slate: Refresh the App
To make sure there are no "ghosts" of your old phone's settings, we need a fresh start:
Delete the Microsoft Authenticator app from your new phone.
Reinstall it from the official Apple App Store or Google Play Store.
Tip: Look for the blue lock icon published by Microsoft Corporation. Avoid any apps that ask for a paid subscription!
⚠️ IMPORTANT: Once it’s reinstalled, DO NOT click "Sign In" inside the app yet. Just leave the app open on the "Add Account" screen and move to your computer for the next step.
2. The "Computer First" Rule
This is the part most people miss. You actually start the setup on your computer, not your phone.
On your laptop or desktop, open a browser and go to: ➡️ aka.ms/mfasetup
Sign in with your work email and password.
Because I reset your settings, Microsoft will automatically say, "More information required." Click Next.
3. Scan the Magic Code
Now, grab your phone:
Open the Authenticator app.
Do not sign in. Instead, tap the "+" or "Add Account".
Select Work or school account.
Tap Scan a QR code.
Point your phone at your computer screen to scan the barcode showing there.
That’s it! Your computer will send a quick test notification to your phone. Tap Approve, and you’re back in business.
